7 Tips for Men to Style Their Rings

Fellas, come on in. Lean in a little closer. No one can hear — it’s fine. If you don’t actually know how to style a ring well, we aren’t going to tell anyone. We may laugh at you a little, but no one else gets to. We only laugh because we’re going to fix your problem once we get a good chuckle in.So many dudes out there get a classic men’s gold wedding band and call it good. Is there anything wrong with that? No, certainly not. A good steak can stand on its own. A classic car will always look good. However, if you wanna put some chimichurri sauce on that steak and a bigger engine in that car, you’ve gotta think beyond just the classics. We’re here to help.

    All Fingers Can Work

If you aren’t wearing your wedding ring (or don’t yet have one), why not experiment with rings on other fingers? Try out a pinky ring or a ring on your right ring finger. Really, put a ring on any finger you so choose. It may not end up being a look you love, but it’s certainly worth a try. You might just find a gem.

    Balance Is Key

When you’re putting on rings with other accessories, you don’t want to do so blindly. If you do it blindly, it’ll look like you did it blindly. Alternatively, it’ll look high fashion. There’s a real fine line between the two, but we digress.

You want your ring to be complemented by everything else. Let your men’s black wedding band shine on its own! Throw a watch on your other wrist and maybe even a ring on your other hand. That’s really all you need. As long as you aren’t overloading one hand or the other with pieces, you’re good to go.

If One Ring Is Good, Two Rings Are Better

But let’s get one thing out of the way: there is absolutely a law of diminishing returns on this one. We know there’s some debate out there about this, but we’re staunchly on the team of less is more when it comes to wearing rings.

One ring on each hand (or even two on one hand) can look great. Once you’re getting into three, four or even more rings, you’re really pushing the limit. If you love the look, have at it, but we advise against it.

Know How to Match Metal to Skin Tone

If you take nothing else from this list, make it this tip. Knowing how to match metals to skin tone is an underappreciated skill and one that’ll differentiate you from the majority of your peers.

Don’t Be Afraid to Mix Metals

Speaking of metal tones, don’t be afraid to mix your metals. It’s an antiquated style rule, and you do not need to follow it. Of course, if you want to follow it, there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s also no rule saying you have to mix your metals.

Should you want to mix your metals, though, you need to commit to the look. All silver and one gold looks odd. A good mix of the two looks purposeful. Keep in mind that one metal should be more prominent. Splitting them 50/50 is also going to look strange. Generally, keeping your metal colors in a 2:1 ratio is going to be a good rule. It doesn’t have to be exactly that, but you want to be in the ballpark.

    Know Yourself

Before you go out and start buying stuff, you want to really evaluate your life. Not in like an existential way (unless you need that), but more so in what you’ll really wear and the lifestyle you’re living.

If you’re an active person, you may want to go simpler on styling your ring. Putting on a wedding band and a watch may be plenty for you. If you’re fashion-forward and want to try new things, then the sky’s the limit. If, however, you’re just starting out, maybe pick a couple of pieces you like and work from there. Once you learn what you like, you can add (and subtract) as you see fit.

    Just Go for It

Honestly, this is half of style anyway. If you do it confidently, it’s going to look good. Even if it isn’t someone else’s taste, it’s hard to knock someone who’s clearly wearing stuff they love and having a good time. You don’t need to jump into the deep end of the pool, but you do need to get into the water.

    Conclusion

All these tips may be overwhelming if implemented all at once. For the guys just starting out, pick a couple and work on those. Once you gain your footing, add in some more. Before you know it, this will all be second nature!
