It’s time to talk about the five best features of Madden 24. We’ve gathered all the information and had the opportunity to play an early build. I even had a chance to play it at EA a while ago, so I’ve put together a list of what I think makes this game great. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that people have different perspectives on games. Something you may find crucial, others might not care about, and vice versa. Therefore, discussing the strengths of the game is important as it will help individuals decide if this game is right for them. So, let’s start with these five standout features.
Number one: Franchise Mode. This is a mode that we all know has been neglected for a long time, and honestly, it still has some shortcomings and room for improvement. But in Madden 24, they’ve added a significant amount of content to the Franchise Mode, possibly the most I’ve seen in my memory. It’s been a while, and that’s a great thing for the mode. If you play Franchise Mode every year, you’ll definitely enjoy it more this year than ever before. They finally updated relocation teams, providing you with more cities to relocate to. They updated all the team uniforms, and you can now relocate as a coach and do it immediately without waiting. They added six trade slots and a range of new management tools that allow you to customize the league to your liking. If you want trades to be more challenging or easier, you can do that. If you want to adjust the regression between different positions or the age at which players start regressing, you can do that too. If you want to turn off home-field advantage, you can do that as well. For example, if you want to edit the advantages of draft classes to make certain draft classes strong for quarterbacks and others strong for wide receivers but weak for running backs, you can do that. They’ve also added more skill trees and abilities for assistant coaches. They’ve added a new draft class generator, and most importantly, they brought back mini-camp, which includes many mini-games that can be used to improve your players during the offseason and weekly training sessions.
The second entry on the list is the return of Superstar Mode. “Face of the Franchise” is no longer present, and we’ve finally gone back to the classic Superstar Mode direction. While it hasn’t reached that level completely yet, in my opinion, it’s definitely much better than “Face of the Franchise.” I personally didn’t enjoy “Face of the Franchise” very much. I didn’t like the story elements, and many things felt forced and melodramatic, with not enough to do. Superstar Mode brings us closer to our roots. You can go back to the combine, with more training drills than before, which is really cool. They’ve removed the narrative elements and now only have cutscenes when they make sense and drive your player’s progress. They’ve also added player ratings to Superstar Mode, giving you real-time feedback and post-game grades on how you perform as a player and as a teammate. They’ve also added layered skills to the mode, allowing you to gradually upgrade them. Additionally, they transformed “The Yard” into “Superstar Showdown,” closely tied to Superstar Mode. While we haven’t fully seen it yet, I’ve played it in the beta and earlier versions, and it’s actually a lot of fun. It’s similar to “The Yard,” but better because it’s three-on-three, no AI. It’s purely user-versus-user, so you can take your creative player into that street element, going one-on-one against other users. Who can break free from the defense? Who can shut down their opponent? Who’s the better player? I think it’s a great mode for Madden 24, even better designed than “The Yard.”
Number three: Cross-platform play. Now, some people might see this as a bad thing because they’re concerned about server issues, and I’m one of them. But the good news is, if you don’t want to participate in cross-platform play, you can disable that option, so you don’t have to worry. However, I think cross-platform play is fantastic for these video games. It’s 2023 now, and it should be the standard setup. You can play with friends on different systems and even play with people on PC, which is crucial because the PC community is much smaller compared to the console community. So when you play on PC, many times you end up playing with very few people. Now, the player base has increased significantly because PC players can compete against Xbox and PlayStation players. So, I think it’s a great feature finally added to Madden. However, I hope it doesn’t cause any server issues.
Fourth: The return of mini-games, mini-camps, and the legendary mode. It brings all these exciting mini-games into the game, and you can play them outside of the legendary mode. We have some classic mini-games from the past, like sprinting offense and corner kicks, but they have also added new games that have never been seen before. Even for some old games, they have made different improvements to make them more relevant to the year 2023.
Fifth: FieldSense updates. I think FieldSense in Madden 23 was done quite well. Apart from some overpowering elements, I didn’t have too many issues during gameplay. But in terms of what they did with updating passing, defense, and other aspects, I think they did a great job, and they further improved on that in Madden 24. They even added more catching animations, but one area of significant improvement is catching.
The catching animations this year are much smoother. For someone like me who typically throws a lot in Madden, accurate catching is crucial, and this year they made catching actions smoother. They don’t slow down, and there are no glitches or distortions in catching at slower speeds. They can now maintain their speed after catching. Even if the ball is slightly behind the receiver, they will rotate and maintain their momentum. They don’t slow down, which actually allows you to turn tactics that may not have resulted in significant gains or touchdowns into big gains and touchdowns because they always maintain their speed. They always move purposefully.
They have also done a lot of work in the area of blocking for running plays, which actually makes the game more balanced because running plays are now better than in the past few years. But even in other aspects, you’ll see highlights like the path planning for CPU running backs. It becomes more challenging to stop the run when playing against the CPU.
